I have been involved in this task several times.... work, work, work.....we did it all with shovels and wheelbarrow....and walk boards...
They are lucky they live in a place with so much dirt. Where I live, there is 6 inches of top soil and then, just a solid mass of granite rock. Want a basement? Drill and dynamite or forget it.

That would actually make a basement digout a lot easier. Wouldn't have to worry much about extra shoring or settling at all.

You should see in UK with CLAY. The house cracks only that you mention basement. Basement in UK. Good one. 🤣
There is no way that this didn't cost as much as the existing house is worth.
My one person army of an uncle did this in Hawaii by renting a front loader and making a much bigger hole in the side of his house (the exposed side, it was on a hill) it added about $450k to the value of the house. More square foots is more money. It took him 1/2 man year.

Currently doing this to my cabin, which is also on the side of a hill. The foundation needed repairing anyways, and a $6k micro-excavator is a lot cheaper than building a whole new cabin on a new foundation.
Wow....well done to you...
Be easier to build the basement and then move the house over it. Or alternatively, build the new basement mostly beside the house with just a small amount under the house for access to the new space.
Thank you, great video!
Hard job. Thank you for video 👍
Thank you
Thanks ❤
I put a full basement under a smaller house by myself about 20 years ago. I used a 463 Bobcat skid steer. Way easier than all that hand digging.
Amazing
I don’t think I would ever need a basement this badly.
This is dope!!
Ich finde es ein großes Wagnis. Die Akteure haben viel Mut. Hoffentlich geht alles gut.

Any estimate on what this type of work costs? Not even sure where to find a qualified company in my area to do this let alone get a proper quote
Yapılan işe ve emeğe saygım var fakat gözlerim ağrıdı çok karmakarışık bir video
My Brother-in-law and I dug the secondary basement area out under my Father-in-Laws house. The Front CBS Wall had Buckled, house was blocked up in the front. It was determined the Footings were Deep enough and not cracked. At first we used buckets and shovels. Later we made a Wheeled Sled to haul the dirt out. Not sure how many tons we moved. Worst was we kept loosing sump pumps from the mud.
That gives me a idea.
Need an over head map to explain where it all is etc .. with sections a, b, c, d, etc .. love it though.. 👍👍😊

I had to fill my footing with 450 tons of sand. Due to terrain, it was not possible for the excavator to reach all places so about 200 tons had to be done by hand. I have finished it within 7 days span. This is really heavy work and not many people are willing to do it. Cudos for the guys. Digging Clay is even worse.
How much to do that per square foot. I need one for the lake house
How much $ to do this??! 😮

That's exactly what I was thinking as one cubic metre of soil is approximately 1.8 tonnes therefore this basement is only about 55 cubic metres and that looks much bigger than that.

Hello❤❤
Has to be cheaper and faster to do a second or third floor, with an elevator. To me, the only thing that could justify this process is already having a bad / failing foundation.

I did my basement digout myself for like $10k, and that includes buying a Chinese micro excavator. Adding an addition would require digging out that foundation anyways, along with walls/roof/etc. Doing the basement just required concrete block, concrete, rebar, and lots of digging.
I wanna do this but much smaller. Just a hot tub grotto kinda thing. But not like P Diddy.

Lol believe it or not most houses don't have basements and sometimes it's long time homes of people why but an over priced house when u already own one and will make it more valuable 30k spent can bring you over a 100k in equity it's an investment
@Radek3887

Yeah, they disturbed the ground under the house, they put in new materials, things are going to settle. I don't care how good of a crew it is, it's not going to be perfect. Imagine 10 years don't the road one side of the house is an inch lower than the other or worse.
@thelight3112

@@Radek3887 Then you jack up that side of the house and add shims. Most residential houses are light enough that a 30 ton jack from harbor freight will lift a corner of it.

@@neoaliphant A lot of homes in the UK are built on concrete slabs, making a basement digout basically impossible. You'd be better off buying an empty plot and building a home with a basement, if you can convince the council to actually let you build anything. They seem hellbent on making sure there's not enough housing.
👏👏👏👏
OMG, I bet that basement cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to dig out.
