    10:24 DO NOT wrap anything around a tree and leave it for any length of time. In a year or two, it will kill the tree. It's called girdling.

  • @davidbwa

    I thought about that when I saw that rope hinge. I found this out with the rope I use to hang my hammock. Didn't kill the tree but realized leaving it too long made "ripples" (grooves where the rope was) around the tree. Not a problem if I don't leave it up for too long but the first time was several years when I didn't think about it doing that. Know I know of course.

  • @davidbwa

    @davidbwa

    Жыл бұрын

    @@josephcline3652 I just skimmed through the video and now I don't see it. So maybe edited. But it showed how to make a gate "hinge" out of rope by drilling several holes through end of a board, then weaving rope through a hole, around a tree, through the next hole, around the tree and so on. Ending up with board secured to tree but can swing back and forth. . The take away is if you tie rope around a tree and leave it too long the tree (which gets thicker as it grows) grows around the rope and it damages the tree. "Girdling" is a way to intentionally kill off a tree or just one branch by removing a ring of bark all the way around. An object such as a rope or chain can have a similar effect over time even if not intentional.

    DO NOT splice stranded wire together as shown in here. It is a serious code violation. Use a wire nut, butt splice, wago, or other UL rated splice device. Also, for the 3 wires to one, use a pass through wire nut, or Wago. Much quicker, and easier on your wrists.

    At 3:36, clearly this tip is trying to demonstrate how to joint three wires without the use of a “pigtail,” but what it fails to show is that those exposed conductors should be thoroughly insulated; a far superior and recommended method would be to strip out all three conductors, add a separate 6-8in section of the same wire (called a pigtail), twist all four conductors together and thread into an appropriately sized wire nut. This leaves you with a single wire to manage and creates a joint that is both safely insulated and easily identifiable; plus, it makes it much easier to remove or add additional conductors if the need arises. Nevertheless, there’s still plenty of great tips that should used 👍🏻

    I really with these videos would pause at each demonstration so you could actually read the text and look at everything, so you know what they're doing before they start. It also doesn't help that these videos are always played on a faster speed. This all makes it hard to focus on the task and understand what's happening. before you know it the video has moved on to something new and you're still trying to process what you just saw. I guess the only solution is to decrease the playback speed....

    While I applaud your creativity, many of your ideas would not pass US building codes, and could get your jobsite shut down if a building inspector spotted it. In particular, some of your plumbing and electrical solutions are not legal. A homeowner needing to make an emergency repair is admirable, but a tradesman doing the same thing for money is a rip-off.

    2:44 All you had to do was drill a hole on the X and then you could have simply passed the cable through, but instead, you decided to cut the board. Silly mistake.

    Cutting a piece of trim 4 inches from the corner instead of just drilling a hole is not only extremely stupid it also just goes against all common sense....so like...what??? How did they even think of that. Did they bang their head against a wall 30 or 40 times and jot down the first thing they thought of

    It’s a technique that can be used in multiple different scenarios. Yes in that one the wire could have been clearly fed through a drilled hole. But I use this when I have to install baseboard behind or next to toilets that have the supply line coming out the wall. If it’s a new installation then, again, just drill a hole and feed it through. But if the valve and escutcheon are already in place then this works to get the pieces behind the escutcheon and almost completely unnoticeable. And to those who will say “just turn off the water, remove the valve and escutcheon and then drill a hole.” Some homeowners won’t let me turn off the main water and drain the system even if it’s just for a few minutes.
