Man Builds Real-Life SHIPS at Scale to the Last Detail | Hyperrealistic Replicas by

Ойын-сауық

Scale modeling, particularly of historical naval ships, serves as a rich educational pursuit that combines the study of history, culture, engineering, and artistry. Through detailed replicas of notable ships like HMS Victory, Santa María, and Dhow, Alan can explore various dimensions of maritime history, ship construction, and the socio-economic impacts associated with these vessels.
Each of these ships represents a distinct era and purpose in naval history, providing a window into the technological and cultural settings of their times. The HMS Victory, a warship from the 18th century, offers insights into the Age of Sail and British naval supremacy, emphasizing the tactical and technological advancements that defined naval warfare during the Napoleonic Wars. The construction of its scale model teaches about the complexity of warship design, including the armament layout, the robustness of its hull, and the intricacies of its sail rigging systems.

Adding the paper towels to the hull is exactly how it was done years ago. I live down the street from the old Owens boat factory along Bear Creek in Baltimore Maryland, and they used to build the shiplap hulls and glue 20lb cardboard to the outside before painting them to form a waterproof surface. Much like the brown paper you roll out on picnic tables to eat crabs. That's one method used to build wood boats before fiberglass. Another is just a wooden hull and garden hose to fill the boat until the leaks stopped, but those types are a pain if you land store your boat over the winter because you need to sling your boat next to a pier for about a week every year until the leaks stop then you can safely use your boat after the hull is done swelling again. Imagine the bill to keep the sling tied up for a week while others need to use it.

I don't have the patience for it. But my dad did when I was way younger. He bought blueprints from ships at antique shops to build these ships from scratch as well. He had his own little corner in a spare room, where he once or twice a week would hide in a workshop transformed cupboard 😂 1 tube light and magnifiers. He even made his own tools, like adjusted manual dentist drills to drill the tiniest holes in the wooden pulleys used to raise the sails or other things pulled up with pulleys. He used strings of sisal, which he would pull through his little tub with tar to put in between the woodwork on the outside of the ships. "Cause it smelled so real," he said... Proper master pieces that could take up a year or more to build. Made his own display cabinets with proper glass as well. All varnished. He was not a carpenter. Just a general manager at the main office of a warehouse chain. But this, his pencil drawings and paintings, was his way of blowing off steam. There was no internet at that time. Telly was just a few national channels. No mobiles!!!! Creativity is key... and patience! Pure natural skills developed after school. When there was time to be creative. That's how artists are created, I think.. 😊 Nice "simple" video about a very complex and time-consuming art.. Thanks....

Amazing models. I've seen people build 17th and 18th century ships like these, but their techniques were always quite complex. Your techniques sinplify the building of these ships so much. The results are stunning nevertheless. One detail I would like to see you add to these ships would be cutting out the windows of the captains cabin, covering them with glazed, yellow glass and then putting some flickering LED lights inside the captain's cabin so it will look like candle or oil lamp lights shining through the captain's cabin's windows on the back of the ship. You may as well add the same flickering LED lights to the lanterns on the deck. As for the grating on the upper deck: Cut that out too, so it's actually a hole that allows you to see some of the space below deck. Tiny details like that would massively increase the realism of these model ships. One additional detail to make it look more realistic would be to sow vertical seams into the canvases. This was done in real life to strengthen the canvasses so they won't rip and tear in strong winds. For even more realism, impregnate the canvas (and the flags atop the mast) with something that will harden, like glue or resin. Just make sure that it doesn't create a shiny surface on the canvasses as it dries up. Some type of transparent matte coating. As it dries, put a fan behind the ship, so that the canvasses are bent in the natural way wind bends it in real life.

Going on and on about realistic coloration of the wood... the Victory was painted black and yellow from her launch till today and during her rework which gave her the stern she has in this model she was fitted with copper below the waterline. And thick (supposedly original) sail fabric is only an excuse not to pay for (and deal with) the fabric of accurate thickness in relation to the model scale.

Love the simplicity of his construction, that is , this perfectionist has things so finely tuned to creating a masterpiece its looks oh so simple until the amateur goes, " i can do that" , and in half an hour has cardboard glued to tables and gluey fingerprints over everything and the crumpled mass of coagulated parts look like a wreck brought onto a rocky shore by a hurricane. Victory was absolutely beautiful and all three models together an absolute wonder to watch the whole creation process to finished model. Off to subscribe to that master craftsman's channel.

Very poor quality. These are toys or cheap souvenirs, not models. Even the model assembled from an OcCre box looks better. And look at the level of models at competitions.

Bronze cannons, loaded by the back, was a Portuguese innovation, as Bronze dilates less with heat, and allowed the sailors to reload them while hidden. England and Spain used it massively after the Portuguese were already an Empire. Nautical history is brilliant. Would you consider building a replica of the Galleon São João Baptista? It was a legendary ship of the Portuguese Armada in the Indian Ocean, and the largest Ship of the 16th century - it was the Flag ship in the Conquest of Tunis - a central city of the Otoman Empire.

Our local children's library had around forty model ships, each several feet long, varying from sailing ships to large liners. No military ships. They were removed about ten years ago as being "of little interest". These models were made by shipbuilding and shipping companies. They were very detailed.
