I see a lot of questionable tile installations on here. Type 1 mastic in a shower? No waterproofing before the tile is set in the showers? Sketchy stuff. And yes, I am a professional tile installer with 19 years under my belt. Those showers look great but they are also the ones that I have to tear out and replace. Got 2 on the schedule in a six and seven house to do. Beautiful looking showers but now the homeowner is looking at around 70k to rebuild the floor system on the west wing of the house. All because the shower wasn't waterproofed before the tile went in.

Why do you say you can’t use mastic on shower walls? I’m pretty sure you’re only anywhere it’s water immersion is a no-no, like shower floors. I’ve only ever been taught to use it on subway tiles for shower walls. I just did it in my house too so I’ll let you know if it fails within the next 5 years lol Source: Union tile setter for 25 years taught me this. And Mapei type 1 technical sheet.

I started watching this video only to see the building that you used for the screenshot , and it turns out it's not even in the video? If you don't mind always include the video you use for the screenshot . Because I do not even watch your video's unless the screenshot interest me. I was interested in the building fabrication, but not concrete or mortar, and entire video is about concrete and mortar.

It's not so easy when the standards becomes optional and the customer refuses to pay for quality. I'm in constant arguments with my boss over how bad and fragile things are but he says we can't do anything unless the customer pays for it. Bet it's different depending on where you live, for instance, I'm not used to installing drywall directly on the beams in a bathroom, but apparently that's OK regardless of the fact that I know the tiles are gonna fall off in due time especially if it's for a family with kids, the walls are too flexible and cracks are gonna build up. If I'm building my own bathroom one day I'm using plywood before drywall for a robust construction. Who ever came up with the idea to let the customer cheap out on things that'll hurt them in the end is beyond my understanding.

That's so funny to read this because just 15 minutes ago when I was washing the dishes I was thinking to myself how bummed out I am that I took all these worthless Financial classes in the mortgage industry and real estate industry then in the healthcare industry which are completely obsolete and worthless today and was so hoping that I could just start my life over and be in the construction trade since that's where my passion is.

Yes if you don’t know anything about tiles may be but waterproofing a shower will be great just So you don’t have a leak damage your whole house Because of your high quality shower lol
