Man Buys Ruined Apartment and Renovates It Back To New | Start to Finish by

In the realm of property development, undertaking a comprehensive renovation project is a significant endeavor that can transform a neglected or outdated structure into a modern, functional, and aesthetically pleasing space. Such projects not only rejuvenate the physical property but also contribute to community revitalization, enhance property values, and promote sustainable living practices.
Connor and his team undertook an amazing job bringing to live an old abandoned house. After being 10 years without anybody living there, the final results will blow your mind.

I agree with others in these comments - huge mistake to remove that beautiful old skylight. Leaving at least some of the exposed brick would have been better too. Allowing a place like this to show it's age and working with what is already there connects it to the city it is in and it's history. Renovating all of that away - it could be anywhere in any new development in any city. But - very impressive transformation.

Very nice rebuild, but with the stairs coming down to the front door unless there is a super drainage system those stairs are going to act like a funnel and bring tons of water into that front door. Also, the lack of windows would drive me crazy. If it were me, I would have mounted a window sized flat screen televisions into several places in the wall where there might be a window. The TV's would have been thin enough to fit into the wall and they could have been framed to look like windows. Then I would have programmed them to display an outside scene, or even an aquarium. Flat screen televisions can be mounted vertically and are very inexpensive. A usb stick could have been plugged in to give either the same or different outside scenes. It would have been interesting to know in what city this construction occurred, because it was definitely not the U.S.

The door to the bathroom should stay white outside and inside if they painted green wall. Thats just me. But it came out pretty good.

It's not too hard to gain the knowledge to do this work, but the financial part of it is just out of reach for so many. I bought my first home in 2016, very cheap it is an older home that needs work. But man, financially with our economy like it is right now, any remolding is a dream. I managed a new roof, but I have an extended part of the home that is lower, (two story) and couldn't afford to do the lower roof yet. There is alot of damage just from that alone. It is nice to see that there are some out there who are doing what I did in finding a home that needs work and actually getting to do the work though. Good luck, it turned out really beautiful.

Can't see anyone actually living here for any extended period of time given it's totally cramped feeling. I'd have kept the wide sunroof as a key fixture to the past. It was beautiful. Sad it was taken out. Missed opportunity even if refurbished with some wonderful stained glass from a passed era. Would have added to the value of the place. Also sad we didn't get a final view of the upstairs patio. You put so much work into sealing it, yet you didn't show it completed and finally furnished. So much potential and would have laid some lightweight, weatherproof mosaic tiles to give it character. You guys came so far, but just a wee bit short from a viewer perspective.

Is the roof now a type of deck? I know that there are a lot of basement apartments in the north, but I would worry about rain or snow accumulating right at the front door, or ice on the stairs. I would have a hard time living there without more windows.

Great work but why not put in a granite countertop? Can get deals on remnant pieces for a counter that small. Wood gets scratched up easily and is a fire hazard.

a lot of the OSB boards, the seams, are not over lapping on a joist, which will affect the structural strength on those joints.

Would have been better to build a second story upside down house with two bedrooms and bath room and laundry downstairs coming in mid floor into the house and kitchen, living room, dining room bath upstairs like the house next door. Looks like an interesting neighborhood.

Looked brilliant when it was finished, but I agree with the other comments on here about the crew not waring masks and other safety gear, lack of foresight I think. I also had to mute the sound because the music was doing my head in.

I appreciate the hard work that took place on this renovation. Aesthetically it is pleasant, but functionally the space needed a little more thought. I didn't see a power outlet in the bathroom for shaver/hair dryer etc. and zero storage for bathroom necessities. Where would one keep their towels and bed linen, if you tell me under the bed, I'm going to ask what happens when the other half of a couple is still in the bed? The kitchen, looked great, but was also lacking in storage, didn't see a facility for storing dishes. I didn't see a closet for coats/boots/shoes/umbrellas, and no space for a wardrobe in the bedroom. Didn't see a closet for a vacuum cleaner/mop/bucket/broom, unless the tall kitchen cabinet is to be used for that instead of a pantry. The finishes were pleasant, but in such a small space I would consider a more streamlined approach - for instance, the wall sconces are attractive, but in a small space like a narrow hallway or bathroom, I see that as a hazard. I'm curious about the two sconces over the toilet too. Wondering why no light over the bathroom sink, where most of us brush our teeth, comb our hair, shave etc in front of the mirror. Was there space for a washer/dryer? Also wondering why the vapour barrier was on the cold side of the insulation - where I live it's code to place it on the warm side. Another question is why the stud walls weren't well secured at the top - mounting heavy objects like flat screens could cause problems there. Unsure if there was any extraction above the shower. Generally if you don't have a functional space with room for storage, it creates an untidy environment which is detrimental to community participation. Were the girls standing around on their phones part of employing local labour to contribute to community goodwill also?

Great job and it was a hard and long process to ensure safety and beauty. I'm not a fan of dark colours especially if the building is underground. Green is too heavy and it darkens the room too much. I don't understand why you reduced the size of the sky light. Guys, Fantastic job and quality.👍👍👍...BUT, it's too dark. 👍

You can just think of this as tweaking things. The reality is that KZread is overflowing with companies that specialize in just this type of thing. In fact, many staff and fruit workers help out.
